Situated quite some way from the boardwalk, along with the Golden Nugget and the Borgata, Harrah's casino really is a resort in it's own right.
The casino is certainly up there with the best in the country, with an impressive selection of the latest slots games as well as plenty for fans of the older-style genre. Classic video slots like Lobstermania can be found at Harrah's as well as all the 3 reel quarter and dollar slot machines.
The swimming pool area is particularly pleasant, being enclosed within a conservatory area for all year round use. A large area of topical plants and trees gives that Caribbean feeling, making you feel like you have travelled to a different country, rather than to the jersey shore.
At the weekends the casino really comes to life, to create a party atmosphere for both the visitors and the staff. When I was in the casino on a Friday evening, there were giveaways, party music, staff handing out food, like peanuts, popcorn and chips, greeting a game show vibe.
As mentioned before, the casino at Harrah's, Atlantic City is world-class.
So, you can play classic 3 reel games, like stars and stripes, wheel of fortune, double diamond, triple diamond and five times pay,, as well as classic 5 reel slots like lobstermania, Texas tea, frog prince, Cleopatra and wolf run.
If you are looking for newer games, then you will find the full range of slots by WMS (all of the amazing g+and g+deluxe games). You will also find the newt games made by IGT like wolf run and (with it's random wilds feature) and roller coaster slots (with random roller coaster wilds and sticky wilds during the free spin bonus round).
You will also find a good mix of konami slots as well as Bally games. If you are looking for the new Bally games like the dragon slots, with sticky wilds in the bonus game (can pay out some massive wins), then you will find a selection here that is as good as any casino in las Vegas.
Something that was particularly impressive on the sits floor was the drink service. Harrah's offers a range of drinks that is far superior to that you would find on the boardwalk hotels (take note trump and Caesars). Rather than just offering plastic cups of bud light, Harrah's had a full service of bottled beers on the slot floor including yeungling.
So here is something wonderful - drinks can be ordered from a screen embedded at your gaming machine. Simply use the screen to find the drink you fancy (a huge list of beers, wines, liquor and cocktails) and a server will come right over with your drink. Gone are the days of waiting to order!
When I tested out the service, from pressing the button to getting my bottle of beer took less than five minutes and the screen even updated me on the progress of the order - it told me when it was on it's way!
As far as dining goes, the Harrah's casino resort has something for, from a classic food court providing subs, pizza and fast food burgs, to luxury steak houses offering the very best prime cuts of aged Angus beef and seafood that is as fresh as it comes.
There are also sports bars with quality beers, wines.
If you are on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, getting to Harrah's is easy, although it could take a little time. Walk one block in from the Boardwalk onto Pacific Avenue and you will find a regular jitney service. These cost just $2.25 per trip and very frequent frequent especially during the day.
A trip from Boardwalk to Harrah's would typically take about 10 or 15 minutes.
There are, of course, also taxi alternatives, with the price of around $12 to $15 being typical, depending on the time of day and how busy the roads are.
